A very hard to find and long sold out, Limited edition #1 display entitled 'One Giant Leap,' containing a small flown swatch of material from the first powered flight - the Wright Brothers' 1903 Flyer 1 and a small piece of Kapton foil from the first lunar landing - the Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia, presented in a 9.75 x 3 x 1.5 Lucite display. In fine condition. Accompanied by a signed certificate from Historic Space numbered '1.' which reads:
I certify that the artifacts encapsulated within the accompanying acrylic are authentic fragments of the Wright Brothers aeroplane
"Flyer 1" and the Apollo 11 spacecraft "Columbia"
The fragment of fabric from the Flyer 1 is originally sourced from, and authenticated by, Harold J. Miller of the Wright Brothers Estate. The fragment of outer skin (called kapton Foil") of the Apollo 11 spacecraft is originally sourced from, and authenticated by, James Fisher of the Mascoutah Aerospace Museum.
I personally sub-divided the pieces encapsulated within this acrylic from larger swatches of the material in my possession.
These small fragments were an integral part of the two most significant flights in humankind history: the first sustained powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17 1903 and the first spaceflight to land a man upon the surface of the moon on July 16-24 1969.
This is "one giant leap" acrylic number: 1
