Quicktime Virtual Reality Apollo Panoramas

Quicktime VR Movies are 360 panoramas that you can navigate around using your mouse. Once you have clicked on one of the movies below, you just need to point your mouse in any direction whilst holding down the button, and you can move around in 360 degrees, just like you are actually standing on the surface of the moon!

Apollo 11 EASEP Panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong, this pan shows lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin unpacking the EASEP which stands for the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package, from the side of Lunar Module 'Eagle'.

Apollo 12 LM 4 O'clock panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 12 lunar module pilot Alan Bean, this pan shows commander Pete Conrad working at the Lunar Module. The large umbrella type object is the s-band antenna, which is pointing directly at the earth to enable communication with mission control. On the left is Surveyor Crater, which if you look closely, contains the Surveyor 3 landing craft sent 31 months earlier.

Apollo 14 LM Panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 14 commander Alan Shepard, this pan shows lunar module pilot Edgar Mitchell working the TV camera, as a brilliant sun glare reflects off the Lunar Module, 'Antares'. The slopes of Cone Crater are in the background.

Apollo 15 station 2 panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 15 lunar module pilot, Jim Irwin this pan shows commander Dave Scott while he examines a boulder on the slopes of Hadley Delta. To the right is Hadley Rille, a 75 mile long gorge in the lunar surface

Taken by Apollo 15 lunar module pilot, Jim Irwin this pan shows commander Dave Scott while he stores core tube samples on the back of the lunar rover. In the background is Lunar Module, 'Falcon' surrounded by the Swann Hills and mount hadley Delta

Taken by Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin, this pan shows Commander Dave Scott collecting a camera from the Lunar Rover which is parked beside Hadley Rille. Behind the Rover to the right is Mount Hadley Delta with the huge St George Crater punched into its side

Taken by Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin, this pan shows Commander Dave Scott returning from the Rover with the 500mm lens enabled camera. From left to right, Hadley Rille, Mount Hadley, The Swann Hills, Silver Spur, Mount Hadely Delta with St George Crater, and finally Hadley Rille once more

Taken by Apollo 16 commander John Young, this pan shows Apollo 16 Lunar Module pilot, Charlie Duke standing on the rim of Plum Crater. And also shows Duke walking away as he moved while the pan was being taken. The larger crater is Flag crater and in the background is Stone Mountain, and beyond that is South Ray Crater

Apollo 17 Schmitt Rake panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 17 commander, Gene Cernan this pan was located at Station 1 in the middle of the Taurus Littrow valley and shows lunar module pilot Harrison Schmitt collecting small samples of rock by way of a lunar rake.

Taken by Apollo 17 commander, Gene Cernan this pan was located at Station 4 and shows lunar module pilot Harrison Schmitt at the lunar rover, dwarfed by Shorty Crater. Schmitt is very close to the spot where orange soil was discovered.

Apollo 17 EVA3 12 o'clock panorama 360 degree QTVR
Taken by Apollo 17 lunar module pilot, Harrison Schmitt this pan captured at the beginning of EVA3. Called the 12 O'clock pan because that was Schmitt's position in relation to the LM. Gene Cernan can be seen mounting a map on the Lunar Rover instrument panel
