These 2 maps showing the Descartes Region of the Moon, measure 10.5 x 8 inches and were used by Command Module Pilot, Dick Gordon while he orbited the moon during the Apollo 12 mission. They were used to identify features around the Apollo 16 Landing Site, and were taken from the Apollo 12 CSM Lunar Landmark Maps Book
Each Map has been inscribed:
"Flown on Apollo XII. Landmarks on the Descartes plateau. Richard Gordon, CMP."
Plus Dick Gordon has supplied a one page HANDWRITTEN COA which in part reads:
"These two photos of the lunar surface were taken from the Apollo 12 'CSM Lunar Landmark Maps' book. They are photos of the Descartes Plateau (of different scale), the landing site for Apollo 16. I used these photo maps during Apollo XII to familiarize myself with the landmarks ...that I would use as targets on revolution 42... The data attained was later used during the Apollo 16 mission"
