to navigate during the descent to the valley of Taurus Littrow

This 10x8 inch descent map was used by Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt to track the Lunar Module's powered descent to the surface of the moon on Apollo 17 and spent three days on the lunar surface in the LM. It is section 5 of an 18-panel map that was used to track the LM's progress from Lunar Orbit, down to the landing site. The numbers on the left side indicate that this chart shows minute's 15 and 14 in the countdown to touchdown

Cernan has signed and inscribed this map "This chart used on descent to Taurus-Littrow. Gene Cernan Apollo XVII"

Provenance: Ex Gene Cernan collection.

Framed with recessed windows for map, plaque and mission patch. Matted in acid-free black suede with gold fillet. Frame ic 1.25" evched gold reverse-style aluminum, with non-glare UV plexiglass.

The overall framed size is approx 19" x 22"
